I love making things.

Origin

Growing up, I took apart perfectly good toys and reassembled them with duct tape and a prayer. Eventually my parents redirected that energy into a Commodore 64. I spent countless hours playing games and tinkering with it, learned BASIC, and used it to take second place at a science fair with a friend.

College

In college I studied Computer Animation, Art, and English. A friend showed me the Internet one night, and somewhere along the way I quietly decided not to be an animator. There were no courses on web design, so I taught myself HTML and CSS. I also picked up C by programming a Toy Story–inspired level on a MUD.

Web 1.0

After graduating, I co-founded one of Nashville's first web design companies. While there, I handed a design off to a programmer for some basic functionality, and it came back awful. So I learned front-end and back-end development to do it myself, and ended up building a custom CMS that powered our client sites.

Product Design

Then a client wanted something other than a website: an admin site where he could upload insurance documents for his clients, plus a way for those clients to sign in and view them. I loved that project, so I pivoted my career focus and sought out roles in what's now known as product design.

Web 2.0

With that hybrid background, I designed and built products across enterprise eCommerce, financial services, entertainment, and email marketing. I collaborated with great teams and learned to integrate my work into Java, .NET, PHP, and Python environments.

Mobile

Then the iPhone shook up the world. The Internet wasn't tied to a desktop anymore, and that changed everything about how I worked. I learned responsive design and iOS development so I could design in this new material. I built web and native app experiences people could take anywhere, and ended up leading mobile.

Learning Analytics

From there I helped take a learning analytics platform from blank canvas to acquisition. I built data visualization and data transformation features that simplified and replaced the BI tools enterprises were using. I also prototyped where the product was headed, with voice and VR, to show what it could become.

AI

My latest material is AI. I've taught myself how to build with LLMs and have brought those workflows to my team, expanding what and how we ship. It's led to vision prototypes and proofs of concept that have helped close deals, and platform workflows that support millions of patient interactions across healthcare.

Personal

I live outside Nashville, TN with my family. I spend my free time on a variety of creative pursuits, like building web and mobile products with AI and making story-based video games that dozens of people have downloaded. When I'm not doing that, I play guitar and mandolin.
